POLICY & ADVOCACY

OREGON Opportunity Network advocates for housing resources and policy
AT THE LOCAL, COUNTY, STATE, REGIONAL, AND FEDERAL LEVELS

Oregon ON convenes a State Policy Council and a Portland Policy Council with our members to discuss and learn about policy issues, develop advocacy positions, share information and to connect with our key governmental partners, including the City of Portland, Metro Regional Government, and Oregon Housing and Community Services. Our Board-designated Legislative Committee works with our contract lobbyist to advance our agenda in Salem.

Among other affiliations, Oregon ON is an founding member of the Oregon Housing Alliance; a member of the Human Services Coalition of Oregon; a founding member of and the fiscal agent for the Welcome Home Coalitiona member of Anti-Displacement PDXa lead organization in the Oregon Inclusionary Zoning Coalition; the only Oregon member in the National Alliance of Community Economic Development Associations (NACEDA); and a State Coalition Partner of the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC).

For more information about our policy and advocacy program, contact Ruth Adkins.

Our policy agenda is focused around three key goals that strengthen our members and the industry:

  • Increase resources for Oregon’s affordable housing and community development industry

  • “Tell the story” in a compelling way to a variety of stakeholders and the general public
  • Identify and advocate for key policy outcomes that will enhance success for all Oregonians.

This work supports our members and their missions to:

  • Build sustainable communities
  • Develop affordable housing for working families, people with disabilities, seniors and others
  • Provide economic opportunities for Oregonians who are struggling to meet their basic needs.
