Member Services
The primary focus of Oregon ON is to ensure our members have the tools they need to be successful in their mission to improve the lives of Oregonians. We accomplish this through education, advocacy, and communications.
Peer Training and Promotion of Best Practices
Oregon ON manages a training network designed to give our members a forum to exchange ideas, build their knowledge, receive training and technical assistance, and promote best practices. Twice a year, Oregon ON coordinates an Industry Support Conference, bringing together our seven practitioner-based Working Groups for training, networking and support.
Oregon ON also develops web-based trainings and videoconferences for members’ staff and boards, maintains an events and trainings calendar, and connects our members with other technical assistance resources.
Policy and Advocacy Work
Oregon ON advances issues and policies that allow our members to more effectively help build sustainable communities, develop affordable housing for working families, people with disabilities, seniors and others, and provide economic opportunities for Oregonians who are struggling to meet their basic needs. We engage a lobbyist who works year-round on behalf of our members and industry. We are one of the lead organizations in the Housing Alliance and were a lead partner in the successful Affordable Housing NOW! campaign.
Oregon ON convenes a State Policy Council and a Portland Policy Council, both comprised of voting member representatives. The Policy Councils develop policy solutions and recommendations to increase our members’ ability to serve community need.
Communications
Oregon ON’s communication program has three areas of focus: connecting our members to one another; keeping our members and partners informed; and promoting the work of our members in to decision makers, the media, and the general public. Program activities include:
- Publishing a bi-monthly E-News Letter (nearly 1,800 subscribers) features national, state, and local news, events, project openings, grant awards and member accomplishments. Click here for Oregon ON News and Events.
- Publishing an annual Member Directory that serves as a reference and promotional tool for our members.
- Through a grant from the Portland Housing Bureau, we organize six annual Public Forums on housing-related issues.
- Hosting and facilitating web based forums and email dialogue for the peer groups, policy councils, and among member partners as needed
