CORE SERVICES OFFERED

1.  Eviction Prevention: NHA’s Resident Services team works to keep tenants stably housed. We work with property management staff to determine who may need rental assistance then seek options and resources for our tenants. Further collaboration between Resident Services and property management staff helps to promote greater lease compliance. In some cases, Resident Services will work with directly with tenants to remedy a notice that may otherwise jeopardize their housing. Other times, Resident Services staff may help tenants the services they need to remain stable in their housing.

2.  Information and Referral: NHA’s Resident Services team provides information and/or referrals to tenants for issues related to health and wellness, employment, social services, rent and utility assistance, service/companion animal information, and food stamp benefits, among others.

3.  Community Building: At sites for families and individuals, NHA’s Resident Services team helps bring tenants together by organizing workshops and events held on site. We strive to provide both educational and fun incentives for those who attend and have had great success at many of our community events, including our employment and financial education workshops, tenant meetings, and back to school parties.

At NHA’s senior communities, Resident Services focuses on health and wellness and reducing isolation. Visiting nursing students provide on-site health screenings that the residents can keep track of in a binder provided to them. The nursing students also give a talk each month on health related topics like fall prevention and stress reduction. Potlucks are also held monthly at each senior site as an opportunity for residents to come together, meet their neighbors, and share a meal.

PROGRAMS OFFERED

The following are a list of some of the programs offered at both our Senior and Multi-family sites:

• Visiting Nursing Students (Mayfield Court and Weidler Commons) offer basic health screening for senior residents. The students visit each month and offer a health and wellness talk on different topics of interest to seniors.

• Homework Club (Springwater Commons) provides school help and fun activities for 12 to 25 school-age youth twice each week.

• Financial Education Workshops (Autumn Park; bilingual English-Spanish) provide residents with information about basic banking, wise use of credit, and how to save for a major purchase. Participants also had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a banker for personalized assistance.

• Employment Workshops (Springwater Commons and Autumn Park; bilingual English-Russian and English-Spanish) help residents prepare for entering the job market. Tips on resume building, interview conduct, and cover letter writing provide residents with the basic tools needed to apply for jobs.

KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS

• The Green Challenge (Springwater Commons; bilingual English-Russian) promotes the three R’s: reduce, reuse, recycle. Tenants received information about why and how to work toward green principles.

• Through participation in the United Way Community Relief Fund, NHA’s resident services staff has been able to directly link tenants to a pool of funds for eviction prevention to enhance tenant stability.
